I Danmark findes der flere steder med navnet Holmen. Historisk har det været brugt til at navngive områder med særlig tilknytning til søfart eller maritime aktiviteter, men det kan også symbolisere isolerede steder i naturen og bruges derfor også om små øer eller områder omgivet af vand. Holmen Stolen er skabt med øens essens for øje. Hver del af dens design, fra dens rene linjer til dens bløde kurver, minder om den rolige og harmoniske atmosfære, der findes på en isoleret ø. Derfor er navnet “Holmen” også helt på sin plads. Holmen er en elegant stol, der blander moderne design og maritime referencer. Og Holmen er mere end bare et møbel − det er en fortælling om eventyr og ro, om at fordybe sig i naturens skønhed og finde inspiration i de enkle glæder ved ø-livet.

Jakob Thau

Jakob Thau (1970 - ) trained as a cabinetmaker and then as a furniture designer at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Since 2008, he has run Jakob Thau Studio in Copenhagen.

Jakob Thau draws on a wealth of traditional techniques, especially in woodworking. His goal is to explore known and new methods to ensure that each design can age gracefully and remain relevant over the years – "A piece of furniture must withstand the wear of the eye", as an old master once taught him.

Jakob Thau Studio has a furniture workshop in a former shipyard building on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen overlooking Øresund. Born in Sweden to Danish parents, Jakob draws on strong design traditions from both countries and integrates them into his furniture.
